ActaOpen helps SMEs, growing companies and startups across Romania and the European Union evaluate, implement and customise open-source technology.
We help organisations replace unnecessary proprietary dependencies, reduce recurring licensing costs and gain greater control over the software and infrastructure they rely on.
Where standard open-source software does not fully meet the requirement, Acta Laurel can integrate, extend and customise it—including using modern AI-assisted development techniques to accelerate delivery and introduce new AI capabilities where they create practical value.
Open source should not be adopted simply because the software licence is free.
The real decision includes security, maintenance, hosting, skills, integrations, upgrades, community maturity and the long-term cost of operating the platform.
Acta Laurel evaluates the complete technology lifecycle before recommending an open-source solution.
In some cases, commercial software remains the better choice.
In others, a well-selected and properly implemented open-source platform can provide comparable capability while giving the organisation significantly more control over its technology and costs.
Dependence on a single proprietary vendor can create increasing licensing costs, limited flexibility and difficult migration paths.
ActaOpen helps organisations identify where that dependency is unnecessary and where open standards and open-source technologies can provide a practical alternative.
The objective is not to remove every commercial product.
It is to give the organisation greater choice, portability and negotiating power.
Acta Laurel follows a vendor-independent technology approach.
Our preferred order is:
Open-source technology plays an important role in this approach because it can provide organisations with greater transparency, portability and control over their technology environment.
Where appropriate, Acta Laurel also considers European hosting and infrastructure options to help clients maintain greater control over where their systems and data operate.
AI changes what is practical with open-source software.
Acta Laurel can use AI-assisted engineering to accelerate the analysis, development and customisation of established open-source platforms.
We can also introduce AI capabilities into those platforms, including:
AI is used where it improves the solution—not simply because it is available.
ActaOpen combines technology advisory with hands-on implementation.
Our approach can cover:
Assess → Select → Design → Deploy → Customise → Integrate → Operate
This means Acta Laurel can help identify the appropriate open-source solution and then assist with actually making it work within the organisation.
For SMEs, this provides access to specialist capability without requiring a large internal infrastructure or software engineering team.
Open source does not automatically mean secure, and proprietary software does not automatically mean safer.
Acta Laurel considers security and maintainability as part of every ActaOpen engagement.
This includes areas such as:
Where appropriate, ActaOpen works alongside ActaShield, ActaData and ActaComply capabilities to address wider security, data and governance requirements.
our first consultation with Acta Laurel is free.
ActaOpen consulting, implementation and customisation services are typically provided at:
€40–€135 per hour, excluding VAT
The applicable rate depends on the platform, implementation complexity, integration requirements and level of custom development required.
Typical monthly allocations:
20 hours/month: €800–€2,700
40 hours/month: €1,600–€5,400
80 hours/month: €3,200–€10,800
120 hours/month: €4,800–€16,200
Before work begins, we agree the hourly rate, expected monthly allocation and scope so that the likely monthly cost is clear.
For managed services and ongoing support, the expected monthly capacity and service level are agreed separately based on the platform and operational requirements.
Infrastructure, hosting, third-party commercial components, cloud consumption and other external costs are quoted separately where applicable.
Whether you want to replace an expensive proprietary platform, reduce vendor dependency, deploy an open-source system, customise an existing solution or explore how AI could extend an open-source platform, Acta Laurel can help determine whether the approach makes technical and commercial sense.
